Safety & Updates
They'll have conversations throughout the day, and you'll stay connected with updates about what they're up to. You'll never wonder if they've been eating or whether they're happy.
Our Advisors
We care deeply about making sure every one of our users is in good hands. We lean heavily on advisors, practioners, and those who have spent decades taking care of seniors with dementia and other forms of cognitive impairment.
Meet the Founders
I live far away from my whole family, including my mom. She lives alone and has had quite a few falls, sometimes blacking out for hours. I worry, because I can't check in on her all the time. She’s fiercely independent, and I don’t always have the emotional bandwidth to be there for her. Sometimes my cup is just too full.
Velma has been caring for my mom every day since my cofounder Justin and I started this service. It eases a lot of the guilt I feel for not being there. I feel relieved knowing I’ll be alerted if something is wrong, and I can see that she’s much happier having someone to talk to every day. It’s comforting to know there will always be someone there to make sure she’s okay, even when my sister and I can’t be.
When we built Velma, I wanted to use my background as technologists and bioengineer to help others in similar situations. A large part of what makes Velma successful is the human component. I incorporate a lot of what I've learned volunteering at my local assisted living community and leading reconnection programs in the memory care unit.
Two of my closest friends have parents living with dementia, and over the years I’ve seen how hard it is to balance caring, worrying, and trying to live your own life. I saw the guilt they carried and the constant fear of not knowing if their parents were okay. I wanted to build something that could ease that feeling - even a little.
Velma was created to bring comfort and connection to families, and that mission reminds me every day why we started this.
